A1 LEVELS:
Swedish Beginner 1
60 min twice a week
Mondays, 7:20 – 8:20 pm (hybrid)
Wednesdays, 8:20 - 9:20 pm (online only)
Format: Online and Hybrid (In person or online)
Start: 04/17 – 06/07
8 weeks/15 hours: No class Memorial Day 05/29
A course for people completely new to Swedish. The student will learn the very basics of Swedish structure and pronunciation while also discussing some quirks of Swedish life. No Prerequisites.
At the end of the semester students will know:
Swedish Beginner 2
60 minutes twice a week
Tuesdays: 6:10 – 7:10 pm
Thursdays: 8:00 - 9:00 pm
Format: Hybrid
Start 04/18 -06/06
8 weeks/15 hours:
This course is for those who are still new to Swedish but perhaps have studied some on their own using apps or through other means. They have a basic knowledge of sentence structure, greetings, know their numbers, how to tell time and already possess a small but basic vocabulary.
The students will learn sentence structure in sentences with more than one verb, placement of adverbs, plural endings, conjugation of adjectives, objective and possessive pronouns and the past tense. Various cultural aspects will be highlighted during the course. Prerequisite: Swedish Beginner 1 or equivalent.
At the end of the semester the students will know:

Start: 04/11 - 04/06
9 weeks/ 15 hours
This course continues to build on our basic skills by introducing indefinite pronouns and the comparative of the adjective. Present perfect tense is introduced, as well as a few ways to express future. At the end the students will be able to talk about their routines, what they like to do, ask for directions, compare products and talk about things they’ve done in the past. Various cultural aspects will be highlighted during the course. Prerequisite: Swedish Beginner 2 or equivalent.
At the end of the semester the students will know:
Talk about things they have done, make plans, compare products and make purchases and ask for or give directions.
A2 LEVELS:
Swedish Advanced Beginner 2
60 minutes twice a week
Mondays: 6:10 - 7:10 pm
Thursdays: 6:50 - 7:50 pm
Format: hybrid
Start: 04/17 – 06/08
8 weeks/15 hours: No class Memorial Day 05/29
The student is now ready to work more in depth with structure in various sub-clauses and will also learn how to use the reflexive possessive pronoun and more specific ways to express future. Moreover, the course introduces slightly more fact-based texts around cultural elements in regards to social and family life, as well as education, that will be discussed. Students will be required to read a literary book over the course of the semester. Prerequisite: Completed Level A1 Courses and Swedish Advanced Beginner 1 or equivalent.
At the end of the semester the students will know:
Swedish Advanced Beginner 3
100 minutes once a week
Sundays: 11:20 am - 1:00 pm
Format: Online
Start: 04/02 - 06/11
9 Weeks/15 hours: No class Easter Sunday 04/29 and Memorial Weekend 05/28
As the student approaches intermediate level, the course begins to shift focus to more conversation. This semester the students learn about the body and illnesses, while also working intensely with presentation and how to compare things; introducing definite form superlative, as well as frequency and short answers. Cultural aspects of living, health and work culture will be highlighted during the course. Prerequisite: Swedish Advanced Beginner 2 or equivalent.
At the end of the semester the students will know:
Talk about how they feel physically, explain how they live, describe and compare things, conduct short conversations where there is an exchange of information and give instructions.
INTERMEDIATE LEVELS: B1-B2
Swedish Intermediate 3: Level B2
100 minutes once a week
Wednesdays: 6:30 – 8:10 pm
Format: Online
Start: 04/12 - 06/07
9 weeks/15 hours:
This level is based on conversation and grammatically the students now deal with finesse and formal language. Instead of expanding our writing, it’s about condensing. Discussions span traditions, Vikings and lore, unwritten societal norms, leadership, work and family structures as well as poetry. The students read a literary book over the course of the semester. Intermediate 3 courses can be taken in any order. Prerequisite: completed B1 levels or equivalent.
